チャールズ・マッケイ (Charles MacKay, 1814-89)

スコットランドの詩人。1814年3月、パース (Perth) に生まれる。Morning Chronicle, Glasgow Argus, London Illustrated News, the Times な どの雑誌や新聞でジャーナリストとして活躍するが、時折、詩や歌の執筆にも手を染めていた。その中でも、Henry Russell (1812-1900) の旋律と一緒に発表された "The Good Time Coming", "Cheer Boys, Cheer!" はたいへんな売り上げを誇ったという。彼の作品の多くは、Voices from the Crowd (1846), Ballads and Lyrics (1855), Poetical Works of Charles Mackay (1876) などの詩集に収められている。また、Dictionary of Lowland Scotch (1888) の編者としても名を残している。 (Y.
